ESOL (Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life City & Guilds 3692)

Most of our English lessons are taught in the classroom where you can work with the teacher and your classmates to improve your English in interesting and challenging ways. Our classes are about everyday activities and things to help you live and work in the UK.

All our teachers are well qualified and work to give you the best learning experience, based on your needs and interests.

On our intranet, you can see what the course is about and all the topics we cover so you can tell how far you have progressed. It also has more exercises for you to do on your own or at home plus links to websites with fun interactive learning games and exercises. You can also tell us if our lessons are good or bad and about other things you want to do in class.

Literacy (Certificate in Literacy Skills for Life City & Guilds 3792)

Literacy is important in every part of all our lives, whether writing letters to friends or the Bank Manager, applying for jobs or understanding reports and safety information at work.

Many adults lack confidence in reading and writing and we understand it can be hard to face things you don’t feel good at – but we also know how good it feels when you beat those gremlins!

Our qualified teachers will help you feel more confident with reading and writing. The course is designed around you and your needs and we aim to help you get a better job and feel confident in that job.

We cover everyday activities such as how to make complaint or fill in an application form - and we guarantee to make spelling and punctuation fun! If you want extra help we can provide one-to-one support and our intranet has lots of additional exercises and interesting websites to help you continue learning.

Numeracy (Certificate in Numeracy Skills for Life City & Guilds 3792)

If you think you “can’t do maths”, you are not alone! A huge number of adults feel the same and yet we all work with numbers everyday of our lives: money, mobile phone tariffs, betting slips.

Our numeracy courses will help you realise you “can do maths” and see all the things you can do in life and work when you feel more confident around numbers. We do not teach maths: we help you work with numbers in everyday situations – and even enjoy them!

As a learner you also have access to additional activities and websites through our intranet so you can continue learning. You can also post your comments on our courses and make suggestions on how we can better meet your needs.

Employability (Certificate in Preparing for Employment City & Guilds 3792)

There are many skills needed to find and keep a job. Language and numeracy are seen as basic skills for any work place but there are other skills that can significantly increase the chances of you getting the job you want.

Our Employability course leads to a nationally recognised qualification and covers a wide variety of activities to help you increase your confidence and ability to land the right job. From being able to sell yourself, to complete applications and perform well in interviews, this qualification is a very useful way to increase your own employability.

IT Skills

Computers are now so common in the workplace and at home that being able to use them is seen as a basic skill for life. We recognise this by ensuring all our courses at Community Systems use computers and provide you with opportunities to improve your computing skills. We will help set up email accounts, apply for jobs online and may be able to offer you an internationally recognised computing qualification (ECDL). Computers also provide excellent opportunities in learning and our intranet provides access to many useful and interesting website where you can continue and enhance your learning and progression.
